Tiny Bit of Formula Promotes Breastfeeding
In the United States, while roughly three-quarters of mothers attempt to breastfeed, only thirty percent of them are breastfeeding exclusively at three months.
UCSF researchers may have found a creative way to help mothers breastfeed longer.
According to Dr. Valerie Flaherman, lead author of the study, giving small doses of formula may alleviate some of the anxiety associated with breastfeeding and give mothers the confidence to continue breastfeeding. The findings will be published in the journal Pediatrics.
